This morning's run was pretty shitty. Above is the rain radar at 5:37am. (we start at 5:30) About half the group showed up today, the other half got scared and stayed under their covers. Unless there's lightning, we run. Period. Raceday never guarantees any type of weather. (Amanda can attest to that when she braved constant downpour for an entire Ironman.)
We were lucky in that we had a pretty short workout on the schedule for today. We ran out to the track, then attempted to run everything at 5km pace, which for me should be around 5:53-5:55/mile.
600 meters, 400 recovery, 400 meters, 200 recovery, 300 meters, 100 recovery, 200 meters.
Wash, Rinse, repeat 3 times.
The track had giant puddles almost all the way around on lanes 1 - 4. The wind was strong on the back stretch. The rain didn't cease. It was about 44 degrees out. Clothing soaked up what felt like 7 lbs worht of water weight as the workout wore on. (Not excuses, simply stating the facts about the conditions.)
After the first 600m split, i decided to just run by effort, and click for my splits, but not even look at the times. The weather was just too crappy for me to care. Only time I ever glanced was after the 600's.
--Dist----Goal--Set1---Set2---Set3
600m-----2.13---2.19---2.21----2.20
400m rec--------2.24---2.16----2.16
400m-----1.28---1.38---1.37----1.36
200m rec--------1.05---1.10----1.12
300m-----1.06---1.12---1.13----1.14
100m rec---------34-----33-----34
200m------44-----46-----53-----47
The bad news is that the wind, rain, and constant weaving between lanes 2 and 5 made it next to impossible to hit the correct times. The good news is that I was very consitent in the pace I ran.
The great news it's been raining since about 1:30am (as far as I know) and it's 8:15 and it's still raining, which means the creeks will fill up for a few weeks! Woo hoo!!

way to tough it out. i thought about you all when i woke up around 6:30. i bet it wasn't a fun one.
good job Mike. gotta run, no matter the weather.
we did 10 this morning at 6am. it was cold it was raining. the parking lot at BS was empty when I got there. not sure if that's ever happened to me before. despite the weather we had a good run, maybe even a great run.
We need about 20 more inches of rain to fill the creeks for a few weeks!

Every bit helps though.
Last week Barton Springs was only flowing at 17cfs when 67 cfs was the MEAN. The algae is going to be bad this year I think.
I couldn't believe how heavy my clothes were when I changed after the run!!!
Y'all are my heros. I hid under the covers.
And cold too!! My skin was bright red and itchy!! I am so glad that yesterday was my start up again day... Good job on the times Mike! That wind on the backstretch made it difficult!
