I decided to go see the Doctor that fixed my Plantar Fasciitis 2 years ago.
Today was a 'free' clinic/scoping session to look at what my issues are, and well, she agrees... no structural damage, the knee is solid, no fluid build, no 'clicking' or 'looseness'.
5 Observations:
- A classic IT Band issue, except mine is VERY tight, very very tight. We can fix this.
- My left leg is longer than the other, which may have caused this, but maybe not.
- Although I have no pains or had no idea, I'm very tight around the hips, lower back, glutes. We can fix this.
- The leg is longer because of the aforementioned tightness. We can fix this.
- Ice
- Ibuprofen
- A rope
- TP Roller
- A butter knife. Yes, a butter knife.
Unlike what every other person and website has told me, she will have me do exercises on mainly on hips, glutes and lower back, with hamstrings and quads secondary, and less emphasis on knee area where it hurts. The butter knife will then come in handy.
On her end, she'll induce pain and suffering like only she can. Cracking, rubbing, pulling, yanking, and torturing me with metal rods.
Most importantly... she said no more running at all until she says it's OK. Today is a sad, sad, day.

Bummer! Although, it's fixable, yay!
Thank goodness for a good down pour and a nice soggy trail run.
Sounds to me like you need to do some strength training. All of that rubbing and massage won't prevent this from happening again, that is if your doctor ever let's you loose on the trails/ roads. The strength training will, you prob don't want to hear that though. Just FYI, just about everyone who runs a lot has a "shorter leg", tight hips, quads, etc. Just go easy and get back out there.
