I went and saw a movie last night: 8 Murders a day
It will be out in February nationwide, and currently just playing in 3 movie theatres nationwide. One here in Austin, one in Las Vegas, and one in Los Angeles.

The movie is a +/- 90 min documentary about the violence in Juarez, Mexico; the border town and drug cartel war zone.
I decided to do some research when i got home and thought I'd share the numbers I found:

• Iraq total nation population: 30million nationwide
• Juarez, Mexico - City population: 1.2million
• Austin City Population: 790k
• Washington DC City Population: 617k

In 2010, DC had 132 murders. In 2011, DC had 108
In 2010, Austin had 37 murders. In 2011, Austin had 27.
In 2010, Iraq had 4,045 civilian deaths, in 2011, there were 4,087. (nationwide)
In 2010, Juarez had 3,113 murders, predictions were for 5,000 murders in 2011. (couldn't find official count)

It saddens me that somehow this city that borders the most powerful country in the world isn't getting the coverage that it should.  Why don't people care?

This guy is running 52miles every day until he finishes his run from the North Pole to the South Pole.  No rest days.  All to raise awareness of the need for clean water.  Somewhere, Dean K is crying because someone is doing something without being an assclown.

What does one do when one is 3 hours away from a presentation to over 150 people, and still feel like you need to look at your presentation at least 15 more times?

Well... you don't look at your presentation, and you don't figure out what you're going to wear, and you don't make sure your laptop's battery is fully charge. What you DO do, is...

You procrastinate.  And you watch videos.  And you read blogs.  And you update your blog.  And you scratch your dog behind the ear.  And you send an email to your friends about tonight's dinner plan.  And you fold your laundry.  And you take your clean dishes out of your dish washer.  Yep... so that's what I'm doing.

This is a fun video about running. Doesn't necessarily answer the proverbial question that non runners ask: "why do you run?", but it does give you a very accurate insight on how a runner's mind works and how we think.

Love the strings

I figure some of you will give me a hard time for this Cheap Trick post, but I have to share it.

I REALLY like Conan's show on TBS.  I record it every night then watch the first 20 mins or so the following day unless he has good guests where i watch the entire thing.  His sense of humor fits me to perfection. (Incidentally, I do the same for Jimmy Kimmel whom I think is a genius)
Conan and Jimmy are clearly superior to many things on TV these days, give them a shot for a week.

Last Thursday, Conan had Cheap Trickon.  Yeah, their music isn't for every one, (i don't own any of their CD's) and yeah, they've been around longer than a caveman, and this song isn't new, but you can't help but love a rock badn that brings in a whole ensemble of strings to perform with them (like GNR did in the November rain video)


Want more proof that Conan is awesome?  Check out what he did to his set for the week of Christmas!  This was the best thing I saw during the entire month of December!

14.25 today, and update on new trail shoes.

Ran 14.25 miles with the road boys today. We kept it light and easy paced for the most part. It was a little chilly running into the wind comgin from the NNE. Websites claim gusts of up to 29 mph, so it was probably about 20mph constant when we ran early this AM, with at least half of it into the wind.

Anyway, the pace overall was around a 7:25 with several of the last miles under 7. They were easy to do as we ran towards townlake so overall downhill, and the wind was finally on our backs.

Several of you have asked me for a review of my new trail shoes... the New Balance MT 100.

It's too early to write a fair review, since I've only run in them 1 time,and that was for an hour and a half at a very relaxed pace. I'll give them much more time on the trails this Saturday when i plan to run a good 2 - 4 hours in them. Why only 1 time? Well, Bandera is no place for the MT100's. They are not made for such a rocky place. At least not for several hours on these beautiful, but highly technical trails:

Happy Birthday to me!

As a birthday present to myself, a little under month early nonetheless, I bought myself a Flip Video Camera off Woot.com this morning.  I've always wanted one, and today, I took the plunge.

So coming soon to a blog near you, countless videos of my oh so exciting adventures!

My production company, "Willin' and able, Inc." is already in talks with a couple of Hollywood studios about creating a video blog dedicated to Karma's life.  But shhh... not a word please, still playing hardball on the upfront millions they need to pay me.

 

Oooo!!  Oooo!!! And guess who will get videos of the Stockholm marathon?!  Not you guys, because I won't have time to take videos.
