A couple of times a year, I geek out about something.
Soon one of those times is about to make it's appearance...
The Peak night for the Perseid Meteor Showers
This year the peak night is Aug 12 from 1am to 7am, which is a Friday to Saturday night. Perfect!
I missed it last year, and I was really disapointed, but the year before, we went out for a few hours, and saw upwards of 100. There was one so freaking bright, it lit up the sky like a camera flash, and the tracer lasted a good 5 seconds.
Count them: one... two...three...four....five. (An eternity for a shooting star tail)
We didn't see the actual meteor... it was behind us... but it was so bright, we looked back thinking our neighbour up the hill was taking flash pictures! When we looked back, there was a huge, thick, white laser beam across the sky.
How: Simply grab your favorite lawn chair, and face North and look up 40 - 60 degrees. They'll be there, just give them some time.
I can't wait. Don't worry, i'll remind you again before it happens.
Where I live, the sky is dark, and perfect. You're welcome to come hang out that night. I'm serious!
