Right. Because all other (commercial) laptops are designed to survive a 40 foot drop.
Let's drop any you own and see what happens!

Then let's take a water hose to them and see what that does to yours, assuming they survived the drop.

Curious as to how much more a laptop like that costs comparatively. 3x? 10x?

GZ, that's a fully rugged laptop that exceeds Military Standard 810G. It is certified to a 6ft drop, rain, shock and vibration, opertational -19f to 140F, salt fog, night vision low output screen, and many other requirements. It's list price is around 5K depending on processor, HDD and RAM.
While we have many unofficial video like this one, and another where we tosse it from about 20 feet onto granite, here's an official one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHL0AZATVkU

We also have a semi-rugged certified to 30inch drop (desk height), spill proof keyboard, shock, vibration, dust outdoor viewable shock resistant screen etc. List price is around 3K that one has a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSzQ6VMHau0
