I ran 1.5 miles on the road over to the trail entrance this morning as I don't have my car. It was great outside: 14.4 degrees celsius.
I then went running on a very damp and soft trail, as it has been raining, and the trails I run get very soft from it.
It's so soft, that Karma goes crazy fast out there in these conditions. He really turns it up a notch. it's very noticeable that he's like a little kid who just noticed conditions rock! The trails zig zag their way around trees, rocks and stuff, and as he rounds the corners, his feet dig into the dirt, and he literally leans his body down sideways in the turns as he can really grip into the ground and kick dirt up as he turns.
Anyway, I had my first wipeout today. I expected a wipeout to come eventually with all the trail running I do, and it finally came. I failed to lift my left foot, hit a tree root, and went flying forward. Fortunately all that was infront of me was a nice, soft, dark-dirt trail where I rolled and got all muddied up. (eventually i'll hit some rocks and get bloody. It's simply a matter of time) No injuries, just a silly fall, so the rest of the run was great!
Running back the 1.5 miles was quite funny. The housewives of the neighborhood were out in full force, with their strollers, dogs, friends etc, and I was a site to see. They all looked at the dirt all over my white shirt, my entire left leg, and my left arm. I bet they can't figure out how I got so dirty running on the side of the road.
Little do they know, there's a wonderland out there that they just fail to visit.
(5 Miles today)
